Our rebranding initiative and roll out campaign on behalf of the nation’s most geographically diverse Conference and its member institutions has earned rave reviews across the collegiate sports landscape.

The Challenge

Fighting for attention from the national media, encumbered by longstanding misperceptions and literal distance, the Mountain West needed a bold statement to stand out and step up.

It was about more than a new look. It was all about a new attitude.

The Approach

To please 11 demanding university clients, this could not be a ‘one size fits all’ proposition. Our ambitious research scope engaged more than 8,000 fans, institutional stakeholders and media members to get it right. This inclusive outreach informed the Mountain West’s new brand identity, nicknamed ‘The Rock’ – strong, feisty and aggressive. 

We then crafted an innovative identity package that allowed each institution to display the logo in their own school colors. Brand architecture seamlessly integrated conference and institutional use. It worked perfectly.

A Loma-produced TV special ‘reveal’ kicked off the roll out campaign. Broadcast live in member institution markets across 8 states, it was followed by a dynamic brand video, web and social media tactics, print executions and PSAs.
