Combating a National Crisis

LOMA has been honored by the American Marketing Association for Excellence in DEI Communications.

The award recognizes of our work supporting MMIP San Diego, a regional coalition dedicated to addressing the disproportionately high rates of violence, disappearances and unsolved cases impacting American Indian communities.

As agency of record, LOMA provides strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, public awareness campaign development, content creation, media relations and outreach support. Collaborating closely with Tribal leaders and public safety partners, we develop messaging and educational resources that are culturally informed, operationally relevant and designed to protect at-risk families and individuals.

Founded by four Tribal Nations, the coalition has more than doubled in size in just one year. It now includes ten Tribal Nations working with a growing network of public safety, victim services, advocacy and community partners throughout California to combat the crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People.

A key component of MMIP San Diego’s work centers on streamlining communication between Tribal, local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. Coalition initiatives have brought together Tribal law enforcement agencies, the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), and many sheriff’s departments, municipal police departments, district attorney offices and other public safety partners to address the unique challenges associated with missing persons and MMIP-related cases.

Initiatives include educational and training opportunities focused on missing persons response, cross-jurisdictional coordination, Tribal community engagement and AMBER Alert in Indian Country preparedness. These efforts help strengthen relationships, improve communication and promote coordinated response strategies among the agencies responsible for prevention, investigation and recovery.

Through proactive outreach, culturally grounded education and collaborative response efforts, MMIP San Diego is increasing critical awareness while speeding coordinated action between the agencies and organizations best equipped to fight the MMIP crisis.
